Lord Shaxx, who lords over Destiny's Crucible, isn't happy about the new "Mercy Rule," but Bungie is about to enact it anyway.

Even the best matchmaking mechanics can't stop lopsided match from occurring in PvP (Player vs Player) matches, and Destiny's Crucible is no exception.

Bungie has been following the action inside of the Crucible, Destiny's PvP mode that spans multiple maps. The devs found that about 12 to 13 percent of the Crucible matches finish with point disparities, between teams of 10,000 points or more.

Some of those thumpings are "legit blowouts" and the result of stellar play, stated Bungie's Andrew Weldon, senior designer for Destiny.

"We don't necessarily want to touch those," said Weldon.

The Mercy Rule analyses games to determine which ones are getting out of hand, but it should have no effect on matches in which one side finally beats the other into submission late in the round.

"You may in some cases still find yourself in games where you feel like it should have triggered," Weldon said. "We will, as always, continue monitoring our UR data as well as player feedback to determine how we can continue to improve it and make it more accurate in the future."

So when the Mercy Rule is invoked, Lord Shaxx will call an end to the match and new players will be barred from joining the slaughter. The game clock will be set to 10 seconds and then the match will end as usual.

The new Mercy Rule will exist in all team playlists except Trials of Osiris and Elimination.

"The low-scoring, round-based nature of Elimination is not well suited for this rule; a 4-0 match will often end pretty quickly and still offers comeback opportunity," said Weldon.

Rumble's free-for-all nature makes its matches less prone to blowouts, explained Weldon.

Even if the Mercy Rule hasn't been established for all playlists, Lord Shaxx thinks this whole fiasco is bush-league and disgraceful -- are you not better than this rabble!?
