San Francisco-based company August has announced that it is expanding its lineup of smart door locks to include a new keypad for its locks, as well as a new doorbell that comes equipped with a video camera.

Beyond this hardware, however, is a plan for a new platform that can manage a number of different delivery and home maintenance systems.

The second generation of August's lock was designed by industrial designer Yves Behar. It doesn't look that different from its predecessor, however, it has a number of new internal features, such as the fact that it is now compatible with Apple HomeKit, meaning iOS users will now be able to use Siri to lock and unlock their door. The lock also works with Android devices, however, there isn't any voice control option available for the lock just yet.

The price of the device has gone down by $20 from last year, now sitting at $229.

The keypad is also a nice addition and gives users a way to access their lock without having to install the August app or having to use a physical key. It can be purchased separately for $79 and can stick next to the door lock.

Next up is a Wi-Fi-enabled doorbell that includes a built-in camera that is able to wire to an existing doorbell plate and can capture HD video of people who are coming toward the door.

Of course, perhaps most interesting is August's interest in the software side of things, having announced August Access. Access is basically a management system for third-party services, meaning users can aggregate a number of August's partner apps into one app to create a one-stop service for home management. A number of services will make use of August's new app, including the likes of Postmates, Shyp, Pillo and even Sears.

The new August hardware is now available for preorder, and devices will begin shipping in four to eight weeks, according to August.
