Usually, when someone is running in a Grand Theft Auto game, it's from the police, but for one player, running means something completely different.

Considering how big the worlds in Grand Theft Auto games are, you'd think that driving would be a necessity. And, while driving is required for getting anywhere in a reasonable amount of time (and for certain time-sensitive missions), it's still possible to run from one end of the game's map to the other ... but how long would it take?

That's exactly what YouTuber TheyCallMeConor wanted to figure out—and so, like Forrest Gump, Conor set off to run across the virtual worlds of each core entry in the Grand Theft Auto franchise: that means the original three games, Vice City, San Andreas, GTA IV and finally GTA V. If you've ever wondered how long it would take to run across seven different open worlds ... well, let's just say that you'd be running for a while.

The video itself may only be 12 minutes long, but it'll take you a lot longer than that to run through each of the games: in total, running across Grand Theft Auto takes roughly 4 1/2 hours. Granted, there are probably more efficient routes to take, and a few possible shortcuts, but even so it probably wouldn't make all that much of a difference.

Unsurprisingly, the earliest games are the shortest, while Grand Theft Auto V is the biggest by far. Surprisingly, San Andreas takes longer to run through than Grand Theft Auto IV, though that may due to San Andreas's larger, more open environments.
