OnePlus 2 fans will no longer be able to reserve the smartphone come Oct. 22, as OnePlus just announced it is closing the Invite Reservation List.

After the original OnePlus One made waves on the smartphone market last year, marketed as the "flagship killer," the second-generation OnePlus 2 is now in high demand as well.

Just like its predecessor, the OnePlus 2 promises a top-notch performance and experience with high-end specs and features all around, offering it all at a fraction of the cost of other flagships with comparable specifications.

The drawback to OnePlus smartphones, however, is the invite-only system the company has in place. OnePlus wants to make sure it doesn't produce more units than it can sell, so it makes its smartphones available only to customers who have an invite.

The company ditched the invite-only system for the OnePlus One after one year, but it launched the OnePlus 2 on the same dreaded system. Consequently, interested customers can only purchase the OnePlus 2 if they have an invite. An Invite Reservation List allows people to sign up for an invite to buy the OnePlus 2, but it won't be an option for long.

The company confirmed that it saw more than five million sign-ups for OnePlus 2 invites so far, so it wants to focus on honoring the ones it already has without adding more to the list. Consequently, the option to reserve the OnePlus 2 will be available for just a few more days. Nevertheless, OnePlus will keep making OnePlus 2 invites available for those who already signed up or who do so before the Oct. 22 deadline.

"As production is ramping up, we want to ensure that as many people as possible who signed up get their invite, so we feel it's in the best interest of our users to close the list and make sure that this happens," OnePlus announced. "In one week (Oct. 22), the OnePlus 2 Invite Reservation List will no longer be taking new entries."

The company further notes that interested customers will still be able to get a OnePlus invite even after the reservation list closes. For instance, all customers who buy the device from oneplus.net will start receiving shareable invites soon, so they'll be able to give others the chance to purchase the handset as well. At the same time, OnePlus is also hosting contests on its social media channels from time to time, giving away thousands of invites at a time.
