Sony just announced official price cuts for its PlayStation 4 (PS4), discounting the console in a number of countries worldwide just in time for the holidays.

With the lucrative holiday shopping season coming up, Sony wants more customers to grab a 500GB PS4 console, hoping that the newly-discounted price tags will make it more attractive. The PS4 already proved to be a strong seller, outperforming rival Microsoft's Xbox One and the new price cuts should further drive sales.

"Since the launch of PS4 our aim has always been to provide players with the best gaming experiences at the best value, and we've been thrilled with the amount of players who have joined our world," Sony boasts in a new announcement on the PlayStation Blog.

Starting on today, Oct. 21, the 500GB PS4 is available across the SCEE region with a new RRP of €349.99 / £299.99 ($397.38/ $463.27). More specifically, the console will cost €349.99 in Benelux, France, Italy, Ireland, Spain and Portugal, $479.95 in Australia, $569.95 in New Zealand, €349.95 ($397.32) in Germany and Austria, £299.99 ($463.27) in the UK and AED 1399 ($380.89) in the United Arab Emirates. Sony also notes that the price drop is not limited to these countries.

UK customers are at a disadvantage here, as the UK premium makes the console more expensive than in other markets.

This news follows Sony's recent PS4 price cut in the U.S. and Canada earlier this month, dropping the price of the 500GB console to $349.99 and $429.99 CAD, respectively.

"We feel this new compelling price will open the doors to even more gamers that have yet to purchase a system," Sony said at the time.

In addition to these price cuts for the PS4 console itself, Sony is also offering some neat bundles for the holiday season.

"From limited edition consoles to some of the best games of the year - there's something for everyone!" notes the company.

Bundles include Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Batman: Arkham Knight, Destiny: The Taken King, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and more. Head over to the PlayStation website to check out all available PS4 bundles.
