The trailer for the Ridley Scott produced Halo live-action series, "Halo: Nightfall," was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con earlier today, and with it some tantalizing details about where the series will be taking us. Scroll down to check out the trailer for yourself.

Actor Mike Colter stars in the show as Jameson Locke, a member of the UNSC that Halo 4 developer 343 Industries says will play a key role in the plot of Halo 5: Guardians. From the trailer it seems like somebody or something is mining a rare element that can only kill humans, and is using it against the UNSC forces. Locke and a team of UNSC soldiers embark on a mission to find and destroy the elemental deposits before they can do more harm, but the trailer teases that doing so will require Locke to travel to a familiar location for Halo fans -- a destroyed Halo ring.

Which Halo installation is exactly featured in the trailer is uncertain, but chances are it might just be the Halo destroyed by Master Chief at the end of the original Xbox game. 343 has said that "Halo: Nightfall" will serve as an introduction to Locke's character, as he will be an important part of Halo 5. If you are wondering how important, Locke is featured prominently on the game's box art, dressed in the iconic Spartan armor not so different from that of Master Chief himself. Microsoft and 343 have already teased that Locke in Halo 5 will be searching for Master Chief, who has gone missing, presumably on a mission to find himself and bring back his friend Cortana. Along the way, Locke will discover more about the Chief's past and his secrets and possibly team up with Chief's one time nemesis but now friend, the Arbiter.

Halo: Nightfall will be available to Xbox Live users on November 11, and will also be packaged with the Halo: The Master Chief Collection, a collection that contains all the numerical Halo games, including an HD remake of fan favorite Halo 2. "Nightfall" is one of the few surviving productions of the now dead Xbox Entertainment Studios, which was recently axed as part of a plan to layoff off more than 18,000 Microsoft employees over the next 12 months. "Nightfall" isn't the first time we've seen a live-action "Halo" adaptation, the first being a commercial by "District 9" director Neill Blomkamp, and the second being the "Forward Unto Dawn" webseries that served as a prequel to Halo 4.
