According to Amazon, this year's Black Friday was a great one for the company, with record sales achieved for Amazon-branded devices over the weekend.

Amazon said that compared to last year's Black Friday, the company was able to sell three times more units of its devices this year, including newcomers such as the Amazon Echo speaker and the Amazon Fire tablet.

Sales for the Amazon Fire TV increased by over six times compared to last year's Black Friday weekend, while sales for the Amazon Fire tablet jumped by over three times. The Fire TV Stick was among the top sellers, and the Amazon Echo was the best-selling device through the Black Friday weekend. The Kindle e-reader business also continued its growth, hundreds of thousands of Kindle e-reader devices purchased.

The Amazon Fire TV, according to the company, is now the top streaming media player in the United States across all retail companies, though a report by Strategy Analytics said that it was Chromecast that had the highest market share in the third quarter with 35 percent compared to Amazon Fire TV's 16 percent. Amazon has recently stopped carrying Apple TV and Chromecast in its online store as neither device connects to Amazon's Prime Video service.

The performance of the Amazon Fire tablet has increased the company's confidence in the product, of which there are already millions of units built and millions more to be created as Amazon ramps up its production of the tablet. The company has confirmed that the device has become the fastest selling tablet by Amazon of all time.

A recent report revealed that the Amazon Fire tablet sold better compared to Apple's iPad in Black Friday sales.

Amazon's product lineup has grown steadily in sales over the previous years, with the company believing that this trend will go on, especially with the price point that the company was able to hit with the $49.99 Amazon Fire tablet.

"We're excited that millions of customers will be opening new Amazon devices this holiday season," said Amazon Devices senior VP Dave Limp in a statement.
