Characters in the wastelands of Fallout 4 often feel tedious and emotionless. Wouldn't it be better if characters showed more facial expressions?

That's the question posed by the team behind FancyPants, who posted a mod for the game that gives characters much more interesting facial expressions.

"This mod gives the most immersive, top of the line facial animations you will ever see," writes FancyPants on the mod's page. "Do you ever find yourself wandering the wasteland, and thinking to yourself, "[W]hy does every face not look more immersive[?]" [O]f course you do, we all do. This mod changes that."

At times cartoonish, these over-the-top expressions add a new element of fun to the game, which makes sense as the mod's creator states that it's "just a joke." However, the mod's page does state that the creator does plan on working on a mod that will improve facial expressions within the game, making them more realistic. However, for now, these joke expressions could inject a little extra entertainment into post-apocalyptic Boston.

Of course, if you're looking for something even more animated, there's also a mod that lets you change power armor, because let's face it, it's cool to wander through the wastelands as Buzz Lightyear, right? That gives Buzz's catchphrase "to infinity and beyond" a whole new meaning.

Of course, this mod only affects the companion character, Paladin Danse. Not everyone is cut out for life as a Pixar hero, after all. However, those who use the mod and flirt with the character are in for something that's probably a little weird and creepy.

Fallout 4 developer Bethesda Softworks supports mods, which allow players to add elements to the game to make it fit their own style. The developer even offers a creation kit to PC users to make their own unique mods. Bethesda is also one of the few developers that support mods for consoles as well as PC.

"The most important thing in our games is the freedom you have to create your own experience, and modding is a big part of that," wrote the company on its blog. "Like all our previous games, we've made sure to keep Fallout 4 open and moddable at every step in development."

Fallout 4 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
