Bungie wants its Destiny: The Taken King fans to compete against their friends and become a racing legend in the Sparrow Racing League.

The new Destiny racing mode will be available for a limited time starting Dec. 8. Moreover, PlayStation players will get treated to exclusive events, gear and more next year.

"Compete against your friends on Venus and Mars to earn all-new rewards," according to the video teaser. "Become a racing Legend."

Bungie says it intends to run Sparrow Racing League initially for three weeks, in time with the celebration of the holiday season. Although, there is a possibility that the racing mode will come back, depending on how it is received by fans.

"This is a way to test the waters to see if people think this is Fun," says Derek Carroll, Bungie's senior PvP designer. "Most definitely, we could expand on it in the future. We haven't decided on if or when it will come back. We'll see what happens."

For now, Bungie only wants the fans to enjoy the two maps.

Carroll also makes it clear that, although Sparrow Racing League was revealed during the PlayStation Experience 2015 on Dec. 5, this new mode is going to be offered to gamers who play Destiny: The Taken King in any platform.

Sony also revealed that PS4 players will take pleasure in gaining access to special events, gears and other rewards in 2016. This could mean that players will be given access to new story content that paves the way to unlock new exhilarating rewards.

Adam Boyes, Sony vice president of third party relations, announced that exclusive items, including sets of gear, will be featured in the monthly Iron Banner PvP event next year. Bungie has yet to reveal, though, how gamers are going to nab such rewards.

Prior the PlayStation Experience event, many were expecting that Sony might be announcing details of a new DLC. But Bungie did not provide any detail on other plans for the game, nor did Sony address DLC expansions.

Destiny is played via PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
