Microsoft's $150 Xbox One Elite Controller has proven to be a popular item this holiday season. The fully customizable controller sold out at retailers shortly after it launched in late October alongside the release of Halo 5: Guardians, and since then gamers have been eagerly waiting for stores to get the product back in stock.

Though more controllers have been arriving in December like Microsoft said they would, the controller is already sold out at most major retailers. According to Tech Insider, Microsoft says the controller will be in "limited supply" until March 2016.

"While the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller is sold out in many retailers around the world, we are working quickly to get more units in the hands of fans," Microsoft says in a statement. "We expect more units to arrive at retailers each week but supply may be limited through March 2016."

From the way Microsoft phrased their statement, it seems like those who are on the hunt for an Elite controller will just have to keep checking in at their favorite retailer each week and hope to stumble upon the in-demand item.

Microsoft said earlier this week that the company deeply underestimated the demand for the product.

"Here's a product we totally underestimated," Chris Capossela, Microsoft's executive vice president and chief marketing officer, said during the Windows Weekly Netcast (via Fortune). "If I could have built 10 times the number I built, I would have. We got that feedback at E3 that it was awesome, but maybe the price was a little too high, and so that influenced how many we produced."

Turns out price wasn't all that big of a factor for gamers who wanted to step up their game with the Xbox One Elite controller's plethora of customization options, featuring replaceable analog sticks, button programming and more. If you're still looking for one of the controllers, don't worry. Microsoft knows it didn't make enough and is looking to make things right. You just might have to wait a few more months.
