Deep space travel may not be in the cards for humans in the near future but that hasn't stopped NASA from dreaming of things to come.

The American space agency recently promoted space tourism by releasing a new set of colorful travel posters that depict scenes of what life on other planets could be for mankind.

The series of images, titled "Visions of the Future," are the brainchild of artists working at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) design studio. Three of the posters were first released in 2015 and are now referred to as the "Exoplanet" series.

JPL Design Studio

The idea behind the design studio came about 13 years ago when NASA Visual Strategist Dan Goods asked Director Charles Elachi how he could help the JPL division.

This led to the creation of a six-person design team headed by Goods that is responsible for providing the space agency with design work as well as carrying out other more esoteric tasks. Goods and his crew also lent a hand to JPL researchers and engineers by helping them visualize their missions.

"They come from real serious fields of expertise," David Delgado, one of the designers at the JPL design studio, said"Being able to help them through that process, to listen to each other and help them find connections is something that we love to do."

The design team's collaborations with the JPL have allowed its members to stay updated with the latest discoveries and space mysteries that the researchers and engineers deal with.

Delgado said that when the space agency asked them to create new posters, they easily came up with a theme that focused on the exploration of planets.

"We're huge science fiction fans, but sometimes it's positioned only in that way that it's science fiction," he said. "What's kind of special is we're working with people who are actively trying to make these things come to life."

"Visions Of The Future"

The images featured on the posters show scenes that combine reality with the optimism of space exploration. The poster for Europa teases with the possibility that travelers would be able to explore the moon's underwater world, while the poster for the exoplanet HD 40307g is inspired by the idea of a world with an atmosphere and environment similar to Earth.
