Samsung has just recently started rolling out the latest version of Google's mobile operating system, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, to the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge.

The worldwide rollout of the operating system will add a variety of features to the outgoing flagship smartphones, such as Google Now on Tap and Doze. For Galaxy S6 edge users, they will also be getting upgrades to the Edge display that will allow them to further maximize the technology.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow provides an enhanced edge screen and several new features for the technology on the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge, with the company claiming in a post on its official website that the curved edge screen is now faster and will provide more convenience to the user.

One of the improvements coming to the dual edge screen is the option for users to expand the width of the display from 260 pixels to more than double at 550 pixels, which will allow for more content to be shown on the edge panel.

With the operating system update and the expanded edge display, users can now also customize up to nine edge panels, including People edge and Apps edge. Edge panels are quick access screens that provide users with shortcuts to tasks and information, such as contacts and installed apps.

People edge received an upgrade to show the name of the contact below his or her photo icon on the display, as the name was not shown before. In addition, a settings menu shortcut has been added. Apps edge also received an upgrade to display up to 10 of the user's favorite apps, instead of just five previously. Users can now also add entire folders to Apps edge and not just single apps.

What's more, the update brings the new Tasks edge panel, which will provide users with shortcuts to tasks and app features, such as setting up an alarm or initiating a text message.

Samsung has also introduced Quick tools to the edge display, which is made up of several useful apps such as a ruler and a flashlight, into a separate panel.

This seems like a lot of panels for users to navigate, which is why Samsung recommends that users customize the edge handle, which is the fixed tab that launches the edge panel. Users will be able to make adjustments to the edge handle's size, location and transparency in the smartphone's settings.

So that users can take advantage of all these changes and improvements to the edge display, Samsung said it has released a wide collection of content specific for the new edge panlel's wider space. Included in the new content is Naver Shopping, which is a mobile shopping app, and Naver V, which is an app that shows personal video broadcasts made by celebrities in South Korea.

Yahoo Finance, Yahoo News and Yahoo Sports come with support for the new features, Samsung noted.

The timing of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update varies between countries, but with these changes to the edge display, Samsung Galaxy S6 edge owners are surely excited for it to arrive to their devices.
