Harebrained Schemes has news that may disappoint some fans: its much anticipated title, Necropolis, will roll out later than expected on PS4 and Xbox One.

The gaming company aims to see the self-published Steam variant of the game coming out at the same time with the console versions. This means that sometime during the summer, the three main gaming platforms will open their gates for Necropolis.

Initially, the PS4 and Xbox One variants were scheduled to go live on March 17.

The gaming company notes that experienced publisher Bandai Namco will assist with the console installment, but the developers refrained from giving a particular date for fans to look forward to.

Harebrained Schemes President Mitch Gitelman says that it is better to keep mum on a launch date, as console releases add a "significant amount of development work." Gitelman went on to add that the decision to release all three variants of the game simultaneously had nothing to do with the publisher.

"Before it comes up, this wasn't Bandai Namco's idea - it was ours," says Gitelman, who is also the studio head.

He underlined that the additional time that his team gains from the delay will go directly into ensuring that Necropolis gets better features and improvements, both on PC and on consoles.

Gitelman also addresses the issue of fans who preordered Necropolis and hoped to see it soon after March 17. He notes that people who preordered via Steam have two options: summon patience and wait until the game launches, or ask for a refund.

Up to four friends will be able to join in the fast-paced, flashy combat animations from Necropolis. To make the game even more engaging, developers decided to take a lesson from the golden era of gaming: when players die, they start the game from the beginning.

The cooperation between Bandai Namco and Harebrained Schemes debuted last year at PAX East, when the publisher saw potential in Necropolis. Looking at the game's description, it is hard not to observe a strong resemblance to the theme from Dark Souls.

Seeing how Bandai Namco is the publisher of Dark Souls 3, it sounds like a match made in heaven (or hell, apparently).
