Great news for North American Attack on Titan fans: the video game will make its debut here on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 on Aug. 28.

Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom lets players step into the shoes of various characters from the popular anime series as they soar through the air in their attempts to protect their world from Titans.

The game, published by Koei Tecmo, contains 20 main missions that follow the first season of the anime. There are also five additional missions that take place after the end of the series that players can unlock by completing all 66 side missions.

"Think of it as an action game set in the Attack on Titan world where players can move about freely," Hisashi Koinuma, Koei Tecmo COO, said to Famitsu. "It won't be something where you simply defeat an enemy to progress the story, but rather the base is an action game and within that you can understand the original story."

There's also a new English language trailer for the title, which shows the action and brutality that Attack on Titan fans know and love about the anime.

Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom also features 10 playable characters from the anime: Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Jean, Sasha, Connie, Levi, Krista, Erwin and Hange. Each character has their own skill sets, meaning that depending on the mission, players must choose the right character for the job. Also, at the end of the game, Eren finally earns the ability to transform into a Titan.

"Having evolved from a manga/anime series to an internationally recognized brand, we were enchanted by the opportunity to create our own take on humanity's last stand against these overwhelmingly powerful beings, the Titans," Koinuma said.

Finally, players will also have access to co-op play, allowing them to team up with friends to take down Titans together.

Attack on Titan takes place in a world where a group of man-eating giants, aptly named Titans, have destroyed most of humanity. What's left of the human population live in walled cities, but once the Titans start attacking those, a team of soldiers must do what they can to protect the Titans from completely wiping humans from the planet.
