In previous reports, Samsung had announced that its mobile payment system, Samsung Pay, will soon be extended to Brazil, Australia, and Singapore.

A recent announcement gives Samsung users further insight as the company has announced a target time range for one of the mentioned countries. Samsung Pay will be rolling out during this year's Q2 in its first South East Asian (SEA) market, Singapore.

Samsung's local Singapore branch is excited to launch the mobile payment feature in the country.

"Singapore's connectivity and openness are ideal conditions for our new mobile service to thrive," says EVP and Head of R&D, Software and Services of Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics, Injong Rhee. He describes that residents in the country are interested and ready to adopt this new technology of payment.

A survey conducted by Samsung last February concluded that 71 percent of Samsung users in the country were interested in using the mobile payment technology, based on a population of 400 Singaporean respondents.

Rhee adds that Samsung's constant drive to "introduce new technologies" for its consumers works well with the country's aim to establish a Smart Nation.

"Samsung Pay is an example of how Samsung is always striving to introduce new technologies that help to enhance and improve the quality of lives of consumers, especially as Singapore moves towards becoming a Smart Nation," he said.

Samsung Pay will be available for the company's current models in Singapore that use a fingerprint scanner for added security. These includes Samsung Galaxy S7 edge 4G+, Galaxy S7 4G+, Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 4G+.

Credit card holders and major local banks launching with the feature are MasterCard, American Express3, Visa, OCBC Bank, Standard Chartered and DBS/POSB.

Currently, Samsung is widening its Samsung Pay reaches in Singapore across various merchant partners such as Department Stores, Supermarkets and Convenience Stores, and outlets for food and beverages, healthcare, beauty, electronics, furnishing, fashion and lifestyle.

Estimated in February, about 5 million Samsung users use the Samsung Pay method for purchases which have amounted to about $500 million in worldwide transactions.
