The Motorola-built Nexus 6 'Shamu' is on its way to shake things up in the phablet world. An image of the 5.92-inch smartphone has leaked and it's pictured sitting next to the LG G3.

Samsung can take full credit for the current phablet trend we're witnessing in the smartphone world. When the company unveiled its first-generation Galaxy Note in 2011, tech critics declared the device DOA (dead on arrival) and claimed consumers would not want to carry a smartphone with a huge 5.3-inch display.

The critics were wrong and what was once considered to be a gigantic display (5.3-inches) has become the norm for many smartphone makers and most recently Apple, which just introduced its 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus.

The success of Apple's foray into the phablet arena with the iPhone 6 Plus has reportedly struck a nerve with Samsung and the company is now pushing up the launch of its Galaxy Note 4 by a few weeks in some regions. U.S. fans, however, will still have to wait until Oct. 17 to get their hands on the 5.7-inch phablet. Samsung will not only be competing with Apple's first phablet, as Motorola is now set to enter the growing jumbo-sized smartphone world with Google's Nexus 6 'Shamu.'

A new report from Droid Life sheds more light on the 5.92-inch Nexus 6 and how it compares in size with the 5.5-inch LG G3. As you can see in the image, the Motorola phablet has its "Shamu" codename on its rear case and it towers over the LG G3.

The Nexus 6 looks like an oversized new Moto X, complete with its rear camera placement, dimpled Motorola logo, and what appears to be the same metal frame surrounding the phablet. The Nexus 6 shown in the leaked image appears to have a black soft-touch rear case, which should make holding the large smartphone more comfortable.

The Motorola Nexus 6 is expected to feature a 5.92-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad HD display and a pixel density of 498 pixels per inch (ppi). The phablet will be be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, 3 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of internal storage.

The Nexus 6's camera capabilities consist of a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, ability to record 4K UHD video and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Since the Nexus 6 is going to sport a 5.92-inch QHD screen, Motorola has reportedly packed in a large 3,200 mAh battery.

Google and Motorola are expected to officially unveil the Nexus 6 in late October at Google's Android L event and it will reportedly go on sale in November. As always, we'll update you on any new Nexus 6 information as it happens.
