Google is already preparing to launch the successors to the Huawei Nexus 6P and LG Nexus 5X. The company has reportedly chosen HTC to take the reins and build the two new smartphones, and one of those handset's specs have just leaked.

Three of the biggest players in the smartphone game are in the final stages of readying new flagship devices to be released in the next few months. Samsung will be first out of the gate with the Galaxy Note 7, which is expected to be launched at one of the company's Unpacked events on Aug. 2 and is rumored to be released shortly after that date. The Note 7 is reported to have top-of-the-line specs, including a 5.8-inch Quad HD dual curved edge display, Snapdragon 823 processor, 6 GB of RAM and advanced iris scanner.

Apple will follow Samsung and introduce the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus/Pro in September. The new iPhones will be the first devices to ship with iOS 10, which the company recently previewed at its WWDC 2016 event. The pair are expected to share a design very similar to that of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus and be powered by Apple's next-generation A10 processor. The larger iPhone 7 Plus/Pro will reportedly feature a dual lens rear camera.

Google is planning to release its next major version of Android, which is rumored to be named Android 7.0 Nutella. Android N is currently in beta and is available as a preview for select Nexus devices. The OS is expected to ship out of the box on Google's next-generation Nexus smartphones, which will replace the Huawei Nexus 6P and LG Nexus 5X.

In January, we reported that Google was rumored to have partnered with HTC for its next-generation Nexus smartphones. In April, we followed it up with news that HTC is set to build the two new Nexus devices. Now, a new report backs up those claims and reveals the specs of the HTC Nexus "Sailfish," which is believed to replace the Nexus 5X.

Android Police is reporting that the new HTC Nexus code-named Sailfish will feature a five-inch 1920 by 1080 Full HD display with a pixel density of 440 pixels per inch (ppi). It will be powered by a 2.0 GHz 64-bit processor and 4 GB of RAM. It will have 32 GB of storage, though it's possible that other storage options may be available. Sailfish will also have a 12 megapixel rear camera and 8 megapixel front-facing shooter for selfies and video chat.

The HTC Nexus Sailfish will reportedly have a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, bottom-firing speaker, USB-C port and a 2770 mAh battery.

As always, it's best to take reports of unannounced smartphones with a grain of salt. We'll keep you posted on any additional HTC Nexus news as it becomes available.
