In May, LG announced that it has been working on bringing a new gizmo to its Playground family — the LG Action CAM LTE.

As you guessed, the device is an action camera that comes with 4G connectivity and features a tad of protection for those rough scenarios of falls and tumbles. The cam is IP67-certified, meaning that neither dust nor water can get inside it, making it a perfect tool for documenting those wild kayak rides or breathtaking mountain-biking trails.

Looking inside the gizmo, we find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 and 2 GB of RAM in charge of processing power and 4 GB of storage that holsters only the operating system. For recording video footage, users can invest in a microSD card that can be as large as 2 TB.

The tiny cam can capture UHD footage (1,440 x 2,560 pixels) at 30 fps, FHD footage (1,080 x 1,920 pixels) at 30/60 fps and even HD video (720 x 1,280 pixels) at 30/60/120 fps. Additionally, it can stream HD footage over Wi-Fi, LTE or 3G, and even plays nice with YouTube Live.

The LTE capability is especially interesting as it allows users to stream to websites such as YouTube seamlessly, without needing a mobile device as a middleman.

The good news is that the Action CAM LTE works with any device running on Android 5.0 Lollipop or newer, or any device holstering iOS 9 and up. It is easy to sync a mobile device with the camera via the Action CAM LTE app. One neat aspect is that users can store the photos or videos on their mobile device and remotely control the camera with it. This means you can use the Action CAM LTE as a home surveillance device, should you want to.

Those who will use the device for its original purpose should know that it comes with its own tiny mount. This makes for some extra protection and ensures that it is easy to fix it as an action camera. The fact that it features a standard build makes it compatible with a wide array of tripods, third-party stands, accessories and mounts.

The general dimensions of the camera are 35 x 35 x 79.7 millimeters (1.38 x 1.38 x 3.14 inches), and its weight is 99 grams (3.49 ounces).

The Action CAM LTE is about to roll out in South Korea, with the only color option being Titan Silver. LG has kept the lid on the availability in overseas markets, as well as the price the gizmo will come at.
