Square Enix has unveiled the premiere dates for its upcoming full-length feature, Kingsglaive, a spin-off title from the company's upcoming game, Final Fantasy XV.

Set in the new world of Final Fantasy XV (FFXV), referred to as Eos, the movie is expected to provide a more detailed background of the events that would set the stage for the upcoming Final Fantasy installment. For a brief overview, Kingsglaive's narrative revolves around the on-going war between Eos empires, the magical-bearing Lucis and technologically-advanced Niflheim, as the former kingdom desperately protects its magical Crystal source against the greedy hands of the latter city.

"As the overwhelming military might of the empire bears down, King Regis is faced with an impossible ultimatum ... [to] surrender his lands to [Niflheim]'s rule," notes the movie's plot description. "Although the king concedes, it becomes clear that the empire will stop at nothing to achieve their devious goals, with only the Kingsglaive standing between them and world domination."

Directed by Takeshi Nozue, the movie's English adaptation features a voice cast of well-known figures from the Game of Thrones series, Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister) as Princess Lunafreya and Sean Bean (Ned Stark) as King Regis, as well as the concluded Breaking Bad series, Aaron Paul (Jesse Pinkman) as the movie's main protagonist, Nyx.

Kingsglaive is set to premiere in selected cinemas with the initial list, including cities like New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Houston, Orlando, Seattle and El Paso — this list is expected to include more movie houses as the scheduled Aug. 19 premiere approaches.

In addition, the movie will be available for digital download by Aug. 30, one month before the official game releases by the end of September. This will be a good chance for players who will be buying Final Fantasy XV to (pre)immerse themselves in the storyline of the latest FF universe — after all, King Regis' ultimatum involves the marriage of his son, (and the game's main protagonist) Prince Noctis, to Princess Lunafreya.

On the other hand, the physical steel book edition of Kingsglaive, in Blu-ray and DVD format, will be available by Oct. 4 through Amazon and the iTunes store; both sites are taking preorders now. According to its Amazon listing, the Blu-ray edition carries a price tag of $26.99 while the DVD edition is going for $25.99.

Meanwhile, the more official and cinematic trailer of the movie, narrated by none other than Princess Lunafreya herself, was recently posted by distributor Sony Pictures through its PlayStation channel on YouTube. Check it out below:
