An unofficial companion app for No Man's Sky was recently released, giving fans something to tide them over until the game is finally released.

Called NMS Ally, the app is available for Android devices but the developer said an iOS version is in the works and will be coming soon. It's free to use and lets PlayStation 4 players upload and share screenshots from No Man's Sky directly from their consoles.

Additionally, NMS Ally has a name generator for planets and creatures that players can use when they chance upon new environments or species. There is also a journal that keeps track of when and where discoveries were made in the game.

No Man's Sky isn't out yet so it's difficult to assess the app and its features but many of those who have given NMS Ally's Android version a whirl have nothing but good words for it, pointing out that it complements the combat, trading, survival and exploration aspects of the game.

When a player declared on Reddit that he was able to reach No Man's Sky's center within 20 to 30 hours of gameplay, fans were worried that the game was not going to live up to its promise of hundreds of hours of exploration. According to Hello Games, it would take at least that much to reach the game's center, which is the core mission of No Man's Sky.

To be fair, the redditor didn't say what he found in the center of the game's universe.

However, he did also disclose that the game has a bug that can potentially break it but given Hello Games recently finished working on No Man's Sky's first major update, this game-breaking bug may have already been addressed.

It's not clear when the update will roll out and what exact fixes it will bring but Sean Murray, No Man's Sky's creative director, said that there will be "lots of new features, balancing and content."

No Man's Sky is set to come out for the PS4 on Aug. 9 in the United States and Aug. 10 in Europe, while the game's PC version is due for global release on Aug. 12.
