Amazon just dropped a solid $150 or 23 percent off the regular price of the unlocked Sony Xperia XZ, selling the smartphone at just $499.99 in the United States.

The price cut may be permanent, as it doesn't seem to be a Cyber Monday-only deal. The Sony Xperia XZ price cut comes shortly after Amazon dropped the price of the Sony Xperia X to $299.99, shaving $100 off its regular price tag.

Considering that the Sony Xperia X and Xperia XZ haven't even been available for long on the U.S. market, the new price cuts make the devices quite appealing.

Unlocked Sony Xperia XZ GSM

Amazon is selling the GSM version of the unlocked Sony Xperia XZ, which means that the smartphone will work well on GSM/ LTE carriers such as AT&T and T-Mobile. However, the handset is not compatible with CDMA carriers such as Verizon and Sprint, so take this into account before making your purchase.

The discounted Xperia XZ is available in all three color options on Amazon, so prospective customers can choose between blue, black and silver avatars.

Sony Xperia XZ Specs

As a refresher, the Sony Xperia XZ features a 5.2-inch full HD display (1,920 x 1,080 pixels), a Snapdragon 820 processor, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage expandable via microSD, a 23-megapixel rear camera and a 13-megapixel front shooter, among the highlights. The handset also packs a 2,900 mAh battery to keep things up and running.

A full HD display may not be all that impressive anymore, with QHD smartphones taking over, but the Xperia XZ does shine in the camera department.

The smartphone is also IP 65/68 water- and dust-resistant and is considered one of the best waterproof smartphones of 2016.

The Sony Xperia XZ recently got the November security update and should soon get a taste of the latest Android 7 Nougat.

When the Xperia XZ first hit the market back in early October, its whopping $699.99 price was widely considered a deal-breaker that would stop the smartphone's success. The handset became more affordable in the meantime and its price kept dropping.

At its new price point, the Sony Xperia XZ has better chances of success on the fiercely-competitive smartphone market. If the discounted Xperia XZ sounds like a good deal, head over to Amazon and grab the unlocked device at $499.99. Since it's sold and shipped by Amazon, the handset is also eligible for free two-day shipping.
