If you own a smartphone from Sony, you're probably wondering when your handset will benefit from the Android 7.0 Nougat software update, which will bring a slew of exciting features your way.

Sony has already confirmed that it will push out the Android 7.0 Nougat software update to 11 of its mobile devices, including the Xperia Z4 Tablet.

"We've been working hard to bring this major update to as many of our devices as possible, as quickly as we can," revealed the Sony Mobile team in a blog post in August.

While Sony Mobile did not give any roadmap for the software update's rollout, it shared the devices that would benefit from the latest OS. The smartphones included in its list of eligible devices for Android 7.0 Nougat are as follows:

Xperia Z3+

Xperia Z5

Xperia Z5 Compact

Xperia Z5 Premium

Xperia X

Xperia XA

Xperia XA Ultra

Xperia XZ

Xperia X Performance

Xperia X Compact

When Will The Update Be Rolled Out?

A month after Sony made known the smartphones that would be eligible for Android 7.0 Nougat update, an alleged roadmap from the company leaked online in September. This roadmap offered a peek into when Sony smartphone users could expect the Android 7.0 Nougat software update to make its way to their handsets.

According to the purported roadmap's schedule, the flagship Xperia XZ, which went up for preorder in the U.S. earlier this month, and the Xperia X Performance, available since July, would be the first two Sony handsets to get a taste of Android 7.0 Nougat.

The two phablets will apparently be updated from Android Marshmallow to Nougat in October, but the exact date is not known. Considering only a few days are left before the month ends, we're hoping Sony begins pushing out the update in the next few days.

Following suit are the Xperia X and Xperia X Compact, which are anticipated to get the new OS update in November. Come December, the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z3+ will get Nougat as part of the company's third update cycle. We can only hope that Xperia Z5 users do not encounter any issues post updating to Android Nougat as they did with Android Marshmallow in March this year. It's likely that Sony will push out the update for the Xperia Z5 Premium and Xperia Z5 Compact around the same time.

The colossal 6-inch Sony Xperia XA Ultra and the Xperia XA are anticipated to jump to Android 7.0 Nougat sometime in early 2017, which means that the two handsets could see the update anytime before March next year.

Whether Sony will indeed stick to this leaked schedule rollout for its eligible smartphones remains to be seen.
