Nvidia's original Shield TV is finally getting the much-awaited Android 7.0 Nougat update.

Nvidia, which recently launched its latest Shield TV at CES 2017, announced that it will push out the update the same day the new Shield TV starts shipping. The update not just brings an OS change but introduces a whole new set of features for its users.

An Array Of New Features Comes With The New Update

Other than the Android Nougat update, Nvidia is including Amazon Video, an Nvidia Game App and a performance upgrade to GeForce Now.

Users will now be able to watch thousands of popular movies and TV shows in up to 4K HD. Users with Amazon Prime membership will be able to watch Amazon originals like The Grand Tour.

The update also provides users with the all new Nvidia Games app, a games library on Shield giving access to GeForce Now games, exclusive Android games, and Nvidia GameStream games. The pre-installed games or the games users are currently playing will also show up on the Shield homescreen.

The Nvidia games app replaces the former Shield Hub app. The update will roll out sequentially over the next few weeks via the app update option in the Google Play Store.

The performance upgrade in GeForce Now (with performance up to GeForce GTX 1080) will let players access play-on-demand PC games. The Nvidia GameStream will stream videos in 4K HDR. Several new games like Mini Ninja, Lumo, No Man's Sky, The Witness, Space Marshals 2, Jade Empire
Special Edition
and Lanterns will be available on Shield TV 2015 after the update.

An array of new apps will also be debuting on Shield post the update.

"SHIELD welcomes the NFL app, the new Twitter for TV app, Comedy Central, Vimeo and Viki'" state Nvidia's release notes.

Other enhancements include accessing recent app pages by double clicking the home button to quickly view the recent apps, picture-in-picture support and a new right-side vertical settings menu to enjoy quick navigation.

Users can also deploy the Pause and Play function by double clicking the volume slider in the Shield remote and write on an attached USB or SD card. The PLEX speaker has also been upgraded by getting a 4.1, 6.1 and 8.1 configuration support. The update has also enabled cast for HBO Go.

New Nvidia Shield TV

The new Shield TV comes with an upgraded design, supporting 4K HDR streaming, as well as a remote cum controller. Performance wise, it is the strongest TV available in the market currently and supports content from channels like Netflix, Google Play Movies, VUDU and Amazon Videos.

The TV comes with Google Assistant voice control, with Nvidia offering a peripheral microphone called Nvidia Spot for its customers separately.
