Popular benchmarking website AnTuTu has revealed a list of smartphones that had undergone its performance benchmark test in 2016.

The primary list consists of all the platforms and shows the top 10 performing handsets. The iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7, both running on iOS, have come out as clear winners according to the post.

iPhone Vs. Other Smartphones

With a sharp ascend in smartphone technology, there are a number of companies who have joined the fray and look to capture the market by manufacturing and selling the best handsets possible. To accurately judge these phones, AnTuTu conducted the performance test to determine the top smartphones of 2016.

The ranks are determined on the basis of the average score for each phone. This is calculated on the AnTuTu app. The iPhone 7 Plus secured the highest ranking, with an average score of 181316. The iPhone 7 followed close behind with a score of 172001.

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus performed well because of Apple's powerful A10 Fusion chipsets. Coming in third was the OnePlus 3T. The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 821 chipset and doesn't disappoint. The phone was also ranked number one in the Android phones category.

The other phones rounding up the Android list were the LeEco Pro 3, Moto Z and the Xiaomi Mi5s. LeEco Le Pro3 came in second amongst Android phones, with an average score of 159911. The Moto Z notched up an impressive score of 148820.

Samsung - Dwindling Fortunes

What is interesting to note is that Samsung has no representation in the list and has been pushed out by the competition. Even after releasing premier smartphones like the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, Samsung failed to break into the top 10 ranking for both Top 10 Performance Android Smartphones of 2016 and the Top 10 Smartphone Performances of 2016 lists.

Among the iOS devices, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro grabbed the numero uno with an AnTuTu score of 194838. The tablet runs on the A9X chipset and was the most powerful Apple device in the test. The other devices in the Top 10 Performance iOS Devices of 2016 list comprised the iPhone 7 Plus and the 9.7-inch iPad Pro on the second and third spots, respectively.

The iPhone 7 and the iPhone 6s Plus rounded of the top five with scores of 172001 and 138159, respectively.

Each phone had been tested and put through the rigors at least 2000 times by AnTuTu before they were scored and ranked. Click here to see the complete rankings, released by AnTuTu.
