The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 could get the Android 7.0 Nougat software update very soon.

The Galaxy Tab S2 tablets are available in two sizes: 8.0 inches and 9.7 inches. Samsung launched the tablets in mid-2015 and the devices came running on Android 5.0 Lollipop. A previous Tech Times report highlighted that the 9.7-inch Galaxy Tab S2 was spotted running on Android 7.0 Nougat on GFXBench in December 2016.

Now, the tablet has appeared on Wi-Fi Alliance, the organization that certifies Wi-Fi products. The Wi-Fi Alliance has certified a number of Galaxy Tab S2 variants running on Android 7.0 Nougat, which include model numbers SM-T815 and SM-T817 (international versions of Galaxy Tab S2 9.7).

The Wi-Fi Alliance has also certified Galaxy Tab S2 models running on individual carriers in the United States, such as Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, and more.

Neither Samsung nor individual carriers in the United States have revealed the rollout date of Android 7.0 Nougat for the Galaxy Tab S2. However, the tablet receiving a Wi-Fi certification and being spotted on a benchmarking website running on Google's latest mobile OS, hints that a rollout date for the Android 7.0 Nougat on Galaxy Tab S2 is drawing close.

It is likely that the unlocked versions of the Samsung offering will be the first to receive the new OS, followed by individual carriers.

Galaxy Tab S2 Specs

For the unfamiliar, the 9.7-inch Galaxy Tab S2 sports a Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels. The tablet runs on a quad-core Exynos 5433 processor and 3 GB of RAM. Customers can pick the tablet with 32 GB or 64 GB internal storage options, which can be expanded to an additional 128 GB with a microSD card.

The Galaxy Tab S2 is equipped with an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2-megapixel front camera. A powerful 5,870 mAh battery fuels the tablet.

The 9.7-inch Galaxy Tab S2 is ideal for users who want to use the tablet for productivity purposes, especially when on the move.

"Creating documents or editing existing ones is a breeze with MS Office solutions. So is accessing them any time, from any device with OneDrive cloud storage," says Samsung.

The 9.7-inch Samsung tablet weighs 389 grams, or 0.86 pounds, and it is just 5.6 mm thin, which made it the lightest and the thinnest tablet in its category at launch.

"The Galaxy Tab S2 is not only our thinnest and lightest tablet of its size ever, it also gives users quick, easy access to a wealth of superior viewing and productivity features," said JK Shin, the CEO and President of IT and Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics.

Amazon is currently selling the 64 GB version of the Galaxy Tab S2 for $549.90.
