Pinterest has introduced a new visual discovery tool for its users.

To utilize the importance of visual integrity in our lives Pinterest on Feb. 7 launched its lens tool for the Pinterest mobile app. This new visual search tool uses the phone camera to recognize real-time objects and pulls up items related to that object from Pinterest.

How Does The Lens App Function?

The lens in the app utilizes the machine vision to detect objects in the actual world. The machine in turn suggests related items during the service. Often it happens that one see's an object that they like a lot but fail to describe it while searching on web.

Pinterest solves that critical problem of leaving things unexplained. So, if a person points the camera at a chair and taps it, he or she can see what that chair is called, how it is made or even home decor ideas using that particular chair.

"For now, Lens works best for finding home decor ideas, things to wear and food to eat," stated Evan Sharp, co-founder of Pinterest in a blog post.

He also revealed that the company is working on bringing more improvements that could be incorporated so that the lens is able to recognize a wide range of objects.

Sharp also demonstrated the lens by pointing it at a pomegranate for detecting its proper functioning. The related items that surfaced were pomegranate sandwiches, pomegranate bread, followed by tips for peeling a pomegranate and more.

"It lets your eyes do the searching," says Sharp, especially when the lens returned night time landscape pictures when pointed at the night sky.

Other Updates By Pinterest

Along with beta lens two other updates was also announced by Pinterest, namely Instant Ideas and Shop the Look.

While surfing through Pinterest, if the users comes across an interesting idea and wants to see more notions related to it, all he or she has to do is to tap the circle that appears on each pin. The tap will unlock all related ideas of the pin and the users can save as many pins as they want. Suppose you are looking for different varieties of oak wood beds and have found one pin related to it. To find more related pins just tap on the circle of the pin and access all other oak wood bed related pins.

Shop the Look is a boon for all shopaholics and is the best friend of people trying to keep up with different trends. This Pinterest feature also helps people who like to experiment with different looks.

Shop the Look, basically lets the user track down a look from a pin and gives them access to links for making the purchase of the desired look.

Availability

The lens feature has been incorporated for the Pinterest mobile app and the update will be rolled out soon for U.S. It will be available for Android and iPhone users.

Instant Ideas and Shop the Look, on the other hand, are currently available on iPhone, Android and web.
