A previous report claimed that the much-loved Nokia 3310 will be making a comeback at the Mobile World Congress 2017 through a modernized version that will be unveiled by HMD Global.

The news was met with much excitement, as many consumers loved the Nokia 3310 during the peak of its popularity. The mobile phone has a unique design when it was launched, with up to 260 hours of standby battery life and entertainment in the form of games such as Snake II.

Leaked reports claimed that the new Nokia 3310 will resemble the original mobile phone but will be lighter and slimmer and will have buttons that resemble the layout on the iconic device.

The report on the return of the Nokia 3310 has now been confirmed, with HMD Global unveiling the mobile phone at MWC 2017.

New Nokia 3310 Specs, Features, And Price

HMD Global unveiled the new Nokia 3310 at MWC 2017, revealing a device that retains much of the charm and quirkiness of the now-retro mobile phone.

"This is what consumers have been asking us for, and so we decided that we'd just do it and have some fun with it," said HMD Global president Florian Seiche.

The official page of the new Nokia 3310 is now online on the Nokia website, detailing the mobile phone's specifications and features.

"The new Nokia 3310 takes the iconic silhouette of the original and reimagines it for 2017," the device's description on its official page reads. The device retains the massive battery life that was loved in the original Nokia 3310, as the new device is claimed to have a standby time of a whole month and a talk time of 22 hours, both from a full charge. According to HMD Global, this is actually around 10 times better than the original device, which only had a talk time of just over two hours.

In addition to the design and battery, the new Nokia 3310 also features an updated version of the game Snake, challenging players to beat the high scores that they set with the original Nokia 3310 if they still remember them. The device come with an updated version of the S30 software of the original mobile phone, with a user interface that is inspired by the old one.

The display of the new Nokia 3310 is slightly bigger and now colored, and a 2 MP camera with LED flash has been added to the back of the device. The mobile phone comes with a headphone jack, an MP3 player and FM radio for listening to music, 2G connectivity for making calls and sending text messages, and an internal storage of 16 MB with a microSD card slot that can expand the device's storage by up to an additional 32 GB.

The new Nokia 3310 comes in four color options, namely Warm Red and Yellow with a glossy finish and Dark Blue and Grey with a matte finish.

The price tag of the new Nokia 3310 is said to be €49, which is equivalent to just below $52.

Reactions To The New Nokia 3310

According to Ben Wood of CCS Insight, the move by HMD Global to unveil a new Nokia 3310 is a clever way of gaining attention for the revived Nokia brand, which is also releasing three Android-powered smartphones.

"Resurrecting one of Nokia's feature phone bestsellers seems like a good beachhead to attack the smartphone market," said another market watcher, who added that HMD Global will need to find a way to differentiate future Nokia devices from other Android smartphones to be able to breach into the high-end market.
