It's official: the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T have been confirmed to get the highly anticipated Android O, which could be called Oreo — fingers crossed for that. However, the OnePlus 2 is being left in the dust, as it'll be stuck on Android Marshmallow.

Put simply, the company has doled out some good and bad news for fans of the flagship killers.

Android O To Make Its Way To The OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T

First up, the good news. Founder and CEO of OnePlus made the official announcement on Twitter, responding to users asking about Android O and the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T.

The smartphone maker launched Android 7.0 Nougat to the devices in question with OxygenOS 4.0 back in January, barely keeping its promise to roll the update out before 2016 ended.

Working out the time it took, OnePlus needed approximately four months before it could finalize the build and start sending out Android Nougat after it became available.

If that time frame is anything to go by, then that means it's pretty safe to expect that the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will get Android O after about four months when the OS goes live.

Android Nougat Update For The OnePlus 2 Not Happening

As for the bad news, the OnePlus 2 is not getting the Android Nougat update, leaving it among the likes of the original OnePlus One and OnePlus X. That's according to an XDA forums user who got in touch with a OnePlus customer support representative.

"As much as we would like to give the latest update on the OnePlus 2, we've discontinued updates for dated devices," they say via email.

However, they note that the company will still support warranty for current users and push out updates, but from the look of things, the "updates" part doesn't include Android Nougat in the mix.

What's odd here is that the OnePlus 2 was expected to receive the update a month after it landed on the OnePlus 3, which didn't happen obviously. The thing is, that piece of info came straight from the horse's mouth or, to be exact, from the company's cofounder Carl Pei.

Hopefully, that won't be the case with the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T's Android O update, where one of the head honchos promises the launch of the latest Android version and ends up not happening at all.

The OnePlus Phones And The Android

Long story short, the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T are in for a treat, but the OnePlus 2 isn't as lucky as the latest flagship killers.

With everything cleared up, are you one of the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T owners who are pumped to get Android O, or are you one of the disappointed OnePlus 2 owners? Feel free to hit us up in the comments section below and let us know.
