NBA 2K18, which found itself in controversy last month after its cover athlete Kyrie Irving was traded from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Boston Celtics as the basketball game was preparing to launch, has now received a new patch that fixes a major issue in the Xbox One version of the game.

The fix was rushed due to various reports in the official NBA 2K subreddit of Xbox One players losing their saves in the NBA 2K18 MyCareer mode. Players who have already lost their data, meanwhile, can still recover their save.

NBA 2K18 Update 1.02 Rolled Out

Developer 2K Games announced the release of the NBA 2K18 update 1.02 for the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 through Twitter without specifying what the patch was all about.

Unlucky Xbox One gamers of NBA 2K18, however, know exactly what the update is for. The developer rushed to roll out a fix to address reports of players opening their MyCareer mode save and finding everything wiped out and their characters reset. The lost data includes player badges, signature animations, and virtual clothing that preorder customers have accumulated.

2K Games has now rolled out NBA 2K18 update 1.02, and it was further detailed in a post by an official moderator on the NBA 2K subreddit. According to the developer, the patch should prevent further instances of lost MyCareer mode saves on the Xbox One, though monitoring is being done to make sure.

Xbox One gamers are recommended to wait a while before firing up MyCareer mode, just in case the update does not totally fix the problem and you end up losing what you worked for. PlayStation 4 and PC gamers, meanwhile, should not be affected by the issue and can play MyCareer mode to their hearts' content.

How To Recover 'NBA 2K18' MyCareer Mode Lost Save

The NBA 2K18 update 1.02, however, will only prevent players from losing their MyCareer mode data. The patch will not bring back any lost saves, but fortunately, there is a process for recovering them.

Xbox One players who lost their progress in the NBA 2K18 MyCareer mode can file a ticket with 2K Support. Players will need to choose the option of "My game experienced a crash and now I am missing MyCareer Save Data" to get their ticket in the correct queue for faster processing.

Players will have to submit several pieces of information to further speed up the recovery of the lost save. Among the things that players will have to provide include their gamertag, whether they participated or not in the NBA 2K18 Prelude, the details of the deleted character, and the creation and last played dates of the save file. Players will also have to create a placeholder save file for the character that they lost.

Upon recovery, players will receive a duplicate of the character that was deleted. However, progress in the MyCareer mode, including purchased items, will not be recovered. In exchange, 2K Games will provide 35,000 VC.
