Rumors claim that Apple will soon release the iPhone SE 2, and according to the latest report, the smartphone will have an all-glass back as also seen in the iPhone 8 and iPhone X.

The glass back, however, will be more than a fancy aesthetic and a possibly expensive hazard for clumsy owners. The construction choice will enable a feature that was also first introduced by Apple in the current generation of iPhones.

iPhone SE 2: Wireless Charging On The Way?

According to a Tekz24 report, a reliable source said that the iPhone SE 2 will be constructed with a glass back panel similar to the iPhone 8 and iPhone X. This will be a major change compared to the current iPhone SE, with its glass panels at the top and bottom rear parts but mostly made of aluminum.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone X switched to glass backs to enable wireless charging, and according to the Tekz24 report, the iPhone SE 2 may support the feature as well. With a glass back and wireless charging, the iPhone SE 2 will be a considerable upgrade from its two-year-old predecessor.

If Apple adds wireless charging in all future iPhone models, including the budget-friendly iPhone SE 2, it would show that the company is committed to the technology. Whether that will happen is unknown, but rumors say that might not have to wait long to find out if the iPhone SE 2 will indeed have a glass back and wireless charging.

iPhone SE 2 Rumors: Here's Everything We Know So Far

Rumors about the iPhone SE 2 that surfaced in August 2017 claimed that the next version of Apple's budget smartphone will be powered by the A10 chip, which is the one used for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. This would be a significant speed bump compared to its predecessor, which is powered by the A9 chip that was used for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

The August 2017 report said that the iPhone SE 2 will launch in early 2018, but a November 2017 report gave a wider release window of the first half of the year. The smartphone is expected to carry a price tag of about $450, which roughly the same as the price of the original iPhone SE.

The current iPhone SE, which now has a starting price of $349, received a refresh last year when Apple doubled the available storage capacities to 32 GB and 128 GB, without changes to the other specs.
