Mortal Kombat 11 will be featuring the former UFC fighter and current WWE star Ronda Rousey as the voice actress for Sonya Blade.

Ed Boon, NetherRealm Studios creative director, revealed this news at the game's official reveal on Thursday, Jan. 17.

The game developer, in partnership with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, offered multiple reveals at the next entry to the Mortal Kombat series during the event. The livestream showcased new gameplay, returning and original fighters, immersive storyline, new features that offer a personalized experience to the players, and the personal appearance of Rousey herself.

Ronda Rousey Says Role In 'MK11' A Dream Come True

The official Sonya Blade reveal trailer published on YouTube introduces the Olympic medalist and WWE champion, Ronda Rousey, as the voice of the Sonya Blade. For Rousey, her participation in MK11 is a dream come true.

"I've been a lifelong Mortal Kombat fan, and Sonya Blade was the first kick-ass, female video game character that I related to," said Rousey. "Now I get to voice her in Mortal Kombat 11. It's a dream come true to be a part of the Mortal Kombat franchise that I grew up playing."

Being the first female UFC champion and her joining the WWE, some fans believe that she emulated the kombatant successfully. She later went on stage in front of the live audience to discuss her new role in the upcoming franchise.

Sonya Blade is the general of the Earthrealm Special Forces in the Mortal Kombat universe. She fights using gadgets, shockwave gauntlets, and military technologies. In the livestream, Sonya is shown shooting her opponent into the blades of a helicopter.

Story Mode, Characters, And Other New Features

The Mortal Kombat 11 reveal event also showed the introduction to the Story Mode. The game introduces a new narrative featuring Kronika, the Keeper of Time and creator of existence as well as the first female boss character in Mortal Kombat history.

The new fighter that was announced is Geras, an extremely powerful and loyal servant of Kronika, who could manipulate time. Raiden and Scorpion were also shown who were both featured during the Game Awards trailer. Fans also got a first look at Baraka, Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Sonya, and Skarlet who was a DLC character in Mortal Kombat 9.

NetherRealm Studios confirmed at the keynote that players will be able to customize the fighters with different costumes, intros, and many more. There will also be different variations of fighters and as announced in a cinematic reveal trailer at Game Awards 2018, Klassic fighters will return in Mortal Kombat 11.

Mortal Kombat 11 will be launched on Nintendo Switch, PS4, Windows PC, and Xbox One on April 23.
