Nintendo's latest version of its 3DS handheld game console is finally coming to America, and it's sooner than you think. Nintendo announced today during one of its "Nintendo Direct" conferences that gamers will be able to pick up the New Nintendo 3DS XL (yes, that's what it's called) on Feb. 13.

While in Japan gamers could choose between the standard New Nintendo 3DS and the XL version, it looks like America will only see the release of the XL. The console includes a number of new features not found in the current 3DS models, such as support for Nintendo's Amiibo toy line, reworked shoulder buttons, a second analog stick (finally!) and face-tracking 3D. The system will also be slightly more powerful than the 3DS systems that came before and ship in two colors -- red and black.

Are those changes enough for gamers to upgrade? At a $199.99 price tag it's hard to say, though the two New Nintendo 3DS special editions are sure to sell out quickly. The first, a Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Bundle, comes with a silver New Nintendo 3DS with a special Monster Hunter design, and will also come with Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate pre-installed. That bundle will cost $229.99. There is also the golden Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask special edition New 3DS, though this special edition does not include the game and will retail at the standard $199.99.

Curiously, the New 3DS XL will not come standard with an AC adapter out of the box, giving you no way to charge the console. One might assume this is because Nintendo expects most buyers to have purchased a 3DS in the past, so be sure to hold onto your old chargers.
