LONDON, ENGLAND - MAY 30: In this photo illustration, a visual representation of Bitcoin cryptocurrency is pictured on May 30, 2021 in London, England. Bitcoin is a decentralised digital currency, which has been in use since 2009.

Currently, mining digital currencies are still criticized by various environmentalist groups. This is because most of these cryptocurrencies use tons of energy supplies.

Because of this, some countries become concerned about possible power outages. On the other hand, some experts also claim that crypto mining increases the carbon footprint of humans.

But, Tesla, Blockstream, and Jack Dorsey's Block Inc. are planning to change this by using solar power.

Thanks to their new collaboration, they can take advantage of the automaker's 3.8 megawatts solar PV array and its 12 megawatt-hours Megapack.

"We figured, let's just prove it. Have an open dashboard so people can play along, maybe it can inform other players to participate," said Blockstream's CEO Adam Back.

The new dashboard that Back is referring to will offer real-time metrics for their upcoming clean crypto mining activity performance.

This means that Blockstream and Block Inc. will be able to track the solar energy they use and the number of Bitcoins they generate. Back added that the latest partnership with Tesla will help them create a zero-emission power infrastructure for Bitcoin mining.

Other Renewable Energy-Reliant Crypto Mining Efforts

The new partnership of Tesla with Blockstream and Block Inc. is not the only effort being made to make crypto mining more eco-friendly.

CryptoSlate reported that some blockchain miners are also trying to utilize Norway's renewable energy to mine Bitcoin. Thanks to this, they can reduce the carbon emissions created when mining cryptocurrencies.
