The "Super Mario" movie from Nintendo and Illumination already confirmed that the film would be seeing a delay due to unknown reasons with the famous game maker. The executive said that the extra time would be worth it for the movie's final output and asked for patience and understanding due to this delay in the animated film. 

'Super Mario' Movie Delays to Easter Weekend 2023

Shigeru Miyamoto, one of the top bosses of the "Super Mario" and "The Legend of Zelda" franchises, spoke on Twitter via the Nintendo of America account and confirmed the delay of the "Super Mario" movie. Here, the executive said that he consulted with Illumination and the movie's star, Chris-san (Chris Pratt), regarding a delay to 2023. 

Now, the film that fans expect for a 2022 release will hit the theaters on April 28 in Japan, and April 7 in North America, giving an insight into the anticipated dates for its world premiere. 

Miyamoto promised that the delay would be worth the wait for the movie, signifying that the film ensures all aspects and properties that it would release to focus on Super Mario's story.

What is Happening to Illumination and Nintendo?

There is no clear information as to what is happening over at Illumination and Nintendo for the film's delay, and Miyamoto did not expand on it further, apart from the new release dates of the movie. For now, fans would have to wait for other announcements by Nintendo, especially with its trailer that did not yet release for the public to see. 

According to Comicbook Gaming, the "Super Mario" animated film could open up the doors for the franchise's future on movie theater screens, something that may surpass or flop like the 90s live-action flick. 

'Super Mario' Animated Film from Nintendo 

Late in 2021, there was an announcement that brought excitement to many Mario fans in the world, and it is with the "Super Mario" movie that the Japanese game creators plan to get. It will star Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" Star-Lord, Chris Pratt, as the iconic plumber that saves the world from many sinister beings around the game's world. 

Since then, many talks and speculations revolved around the "Mario" flick, with initial rumors saying Pratt would play the favorite plumber in a live-action setting. However, the film would be taking on animation from Illumination, the company behind the famous "Despicable Me" series that brought Minionsto the world. 

The animated film has no plot as of now, and many fans speculate that it will introduce the likes of Princess Peach and the Mushroom Kingdom. It will bring the world the unique point-of-view of the famous game that launched in the early 80s, focusing on the Mario brothers that ward off evil entities that seek world domination.
