LOS ANGELES, CA - JUNE 4: A man is shot to death in the violent PlayStation 3 game, The Last of Us, at the Sony press conference on the eve of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) on June 4, 2012 in Los Angeles, California. E3 is the most important yearly trade show the $78.5 billion videogame industry.

Intriguing Gameplay Modifications

As reported first by The Verge, the most intriguing gameplay modifications are those that are depicted in the video, which makes extensive use of the upgraded graphics.

The AI of The Last of Us wasn't particularly impressive when it was first launched in 2013. However, it appears that the remake relies on the more advanced technology used to manage NPCs in The Last of Us Part 2, enabling them to cooperate better and devise strategies beyond going straight towards "the man with the shotgun."

This results in more intense fights, says Neil Druckmann, the creative director of both Last of Us games.

The AI for companions has reportedly been improved more than ever, which prevents immersion-breaking situations when Ellie or Henry rush directly in front of an adversary who then has to pretend they weren't aware of them.

For players who want to survive a zombie apocalypse in the game, the remake will include a permadeath mode. The trailer highlight a speed run mode as well, even though it provided little information about it other than the fact that a timer will appear in the game's upper right corner.

The character animation system has reportedly been overhauled, the game will also have improved haptics that will make the players feel like they're petting a giraffe in that one famous scene, according to The Verge.

Other Exciting Upgrades

Motion matching technology is an additional exciting upgrade. The system employs logic to match the intended movement to a collection of hundreds of animations on a per-frame basis, according to the game's director Matthew Gallant.

More than 60 accessibility alternatives will also be available in the game. According to Sid Shuman of Sony Interactive Entertainment, who posted on the PlayStation Blog, they will be much more detailed than the features in The Last of Us: Part II.

According to Forbes, other enhancements have been requested by fans, including new gameplay modifiers, additional render modes, an improved photo function, and of course the permadeath mode.

On September 2, 2022, The Last Of Us Remake will debut on PlayStation 5. There are currently no further details regarding when the PC version will release.
