There are now growing rumors and speculations behind Apple's famous desktop computer, the iMac, for its next-generation upgrade, particularly with a new chip to power it. Currently, it is the M2 lineup powering Apple's computers, including the famed M2 Max and M2 Ultra which recently debuted alongside the MacBook Pro 2023.

However, there are speculations now that it might skip the M2 chip for its late 2023 release, and it may be one of the reasons behind the hold-up on this computer's update.

According to the latest Bloomberg Power On newsletter from Mark Gurman, the Apple iMac 2023 is coming later this year, and this will bring the updated version of the desktop computer to the world. There are many speculations regarding its next-gen upgrade with the M2, and Gurman claims that this might not be entirely the case.

The iMac production took a two-year gap before releasing its next product, and was not part of Apple's 2022 releases, alongside its MacBook Air and MacBook Pro M2 update.

Moreover, Apple has massive plans for the iMac production later this year, and it centers on the chips it would use to power the device (as per MacRumors).

What is taking iMac's Update So Long?

Gurman also clarified that it would not be the M2 that will power the upcoming 2023 iMac to arrive soon, as it would skip the current chip in favor of its next version.

The famous analyst claimed that there are hints of an upcoming M3, and as per talks in the industry, Apple is looking into using the M3 to power the updated iMac, hence its delay in releasing it to the world.

Apple and the Mac

The last version of the iMac's latest update was released in 2021, where it debuted the multi-colored desktop computers that gave the world a new play on the famed PCs. It takes on the then-latest release of the M1 to power its processes, after letting go of Intel's chips which previously gave it what it needed to bring it to life.

After 2021, there were speculations that the iMac will get an M2 upgrade the following year, but there are no releases from the company regarding this.

Further developments about the iMac, including leaks and speculations of a 27-inch computer reminiscent of the iMac Pro, were also shut down.

Following a two-year wait for the computer, there is a possibility that Apple would yet again bring this to the world, but this time, it would have the upgraded version of its M-series Silicon chips. However, there may be slight changes soon, as the iMac allegedly coming in late 2023 will debut the M3, its next-generation SoC upgrade.
