In an interesting development for Android users, Google is set to release a new Weather app specifically designed for Android phones and tablets.

The move comes after the success of the standalone Weather app for Wear OS, which was launched last year.

This upcoming app aims to bring parity between Google's mobile and wearable platforms and provide Android users with a more streamlined weather experience.

A Standalone Weather App for Android

We reported in May that the Google Weather app is receiving a long-awaited redesign. One of the updates to Google Weather is the new Material You theme that it has adopted, which users will soon see whenever they view their current or upcoming forecasts.

Several reports suggest that the popular app is set for an Android launch.

The news was uncovered by tech news site 9to5Google, which delved into the code of the Google Clock app and found references to a package named "com.google.android.apps.weather."

What does this code mean? This suggests that the new Weather app will function independently of the Google app, offering users a dedicated platform to check weather forecasts.

It is still unclear when the feature will roll out to the public, but it is speculated to arrive after the launch of the Google Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold in the coming month.

What Android Users Can Expect with the Weather App

Android Police tells us that the standalone Weather app is expected to integrate local weather results within the Clock app, enhancing the overall user experience.

This implementation will likely provide weather information for each city added to the Clock app, displaying essential metrics such as high and low temperatures and general weather conditions in the region.

Additionally, reports suggest that the Clock app will feature new elements to notify users of weather conditions, including indicators for clear days, blizzards, scorching weather, tropical storms or hurricanes, flurries, low visibility, and nighttime isolated scattered thunderstorms.

Enhanced User Experience for Android

Interacting with the weather results on the Clock app will redirect users to the standalone Weather app, allowing for a more detailed exploration of the forecasts and additional features.

This move marks a significant step for Google Weather, which has not historically received much attention on Android. However, with the recent Material You redesign, the app is catching up with its fellow Google-branded apps, like Google News.

The hope is that the new standalone Weather app will receive timely updates and user interface refreshes on par with other core Google apps. This development will provide Android users with an improved and dedicated weather experience.

For those eager to try out the latest version of the Google Clock app, version 7.5 is now available on the Google Play Store and can also be obtained from APKMirror

As the countdown begins to the release the new Weather app, Android users can look forward to a more seamless and informative weather experience, ensuring they stay prepared for whatever conditions come their way.
