Vimeo recently released an announcement highlighting the final support end date for its TV apps. Users will reportedly delist the app on the final date, and no more updates will be available on June 27.

Vimeo to Stop Support for Its Current TV Apps Starting June 27

According to the story by Engadget, Vimeo was once a service that reportedly tried to compete with YouTube on the video end. Still, the company has decided to shut down its TV apps altogether.

Vimeo announced that it would no longer support its current TV apps starting June 27. This would include the apps already available on multiple devices like the Android TV, Apple TV, Fire TV, and Roku.

Users Can Still Stream Through Apple AirPlay or Google Cast

Starting that date, the apps would be removed from app stores and no longer get any more updates. Should users still want to watch a clip on their big screen, they would have to do this by streaming from a mobile device.

Users can stream from their mobile devices through Apple AirPlay or Google Cast once Vimeo officially ends support for its TV apps. The report highlights how TV apps were no longer a priority and that Vimeo is starting to put products aside that reportedly doesn't hold up to its "standards."

Company Decides to Stop Maintaining Apps that Don't Align with Its Strategy

Basically, the company will no longer be maintaining certain apps that don't align with its strategy. A certain user shared their frustration on Twitter regarding the decision of the service to end support for its TV apps.

Ted Geoghegan on Twitter shared how they still had hundreds of videos saved on their "Watch Later" list on the TV. They then asked what would happen and if it meant that when the support ends, they won't be able to watch the saved videos.

Vimeo Could Focus on Other Parts of Its Business

The report by Engadget notes that users will still be able to use Vimeo, just no longer as convenient as it once was when used on the TV as an app. This would put the company out of the list of other businesses trying to compete with YouTube.

However, the company's decision to drop support for its TV apps would mean it could focus more on its other types of services. This would mean its other products, like its Video editor, which reportedly allows users to make videos in minutes.

Vimeo OTT Enterprise Sellers Won't be Affected

Instead of competing with YouTube, Vimeo can empower users by helping them create videos through its services. Users still reportedly have just a little less than a month before they won't be able to use the TV apps anymore.

As per Variety, it was highlighted that Vimeo was ending its support and telling customers to use the video-casting features to have a "better ongoing experience." The company also clarified that Vimeo OTT Enterprise sellers wouldn't be affected.
