Mastodon, a popular open-source decentralized platform that shares the same breadth with Twitter, will be launching its merchandise soon.

The company announced that the merch will be used to raise funds for its development team. CEO Eugen Rochko has confirmed that sponsorships are open via Patreon.

In the next few weeks or so, Mastodon will release a new merch set which includes stickers, mugs, t-shirts, and enamel pins. According to TechCrunch, all of this Mastodon-exclusive merchandise is created by Dopatwo, an animation artist who has 1.08 million subscribers on YouTube.

In a blog post, Mastodon also writes that its partnership with FRESH Merch for the production of this apparel. The collaboration will also ensure that the products will be created with the "highest degree of quality."

"Despite our impressive accomplishments in building out the new social web, Mastodon is a non-profit with a very small team and limited resources-the core team is just two developers. 100% of the revenue after recouping manufacturing costs will go to us and help us put more resources into developing your favorite decentralized social media software," Rochko wrote in the post.

Mastodon Merch Will Be Available in Limited Supply

The common scene we see on television every time there's a merch launch is that the items sell out fast. This is normal for celebrities and online influencers who have a lot of fans who will certainly purchase the merchandise.

In the case of Mastodon, the company is still unsure if its merch products will fare well. If that's so, then they are expected to net significant revenue for the development efforts.

Mastodon asked many people about the merch that it will sell soon. More than 6,700 respondents have confirmed that they would definitely buy the items upon launch.

Unfortunately, not all respondents will be able to purchase the t-shirts, mugs, and other products since only 250 units for each item will be manufactured.

At the moment, the official prices of the goods are not yet announced by Mastodon.

However, if you want to be ahead of other merch buyers, you can sign up soon on Mastodon's email so you won't miss important notifications about the products.

While Mastodon remains silent about the release date of the merch, the items are expected to be on sale in the coming weeks.

If the merch selling performs better than expected, Mastodon could conduct more live selling in the future.

With merch collectors everywhere, Mastodon's limited merch is projected to sell out fast. Amid Twitter's rebranding to X, many people might explore more platforms for a change.
