Google Voice Spam Protection Features Expand to SMS for Android and iOS: Extended Feature Highlights Suspected Spam

Google Voice is expanding its spam protection measures to SMS messages on Android and iOS devices. This comes as more people are falling victim to scams or as scams continue to be quite a nuisance.

New Google Voice Feature Helps Identify Suspected Spams by Giving Users Labels

According to the story by Phone Arena, a lot of people have run into forms of spam at different points since they are often available everywhere. The spam messages can not only be annoying, but they can also be dangerous for certain individuals who fall victim to spam.

Being able to reduce the frequency of these spam messages can be quite an advantage and as described by the article, would be a welcome change. Google is reportedly introducing enhanced spam protection through automatic suspicion in Google Voice.

Google Extends the Feature to Cover SMS Messages for Android and iOS Users

It was also reported by 9to5Google that the spam caller warning of Google will be extended to also cover SMS messages. The feature will reportedly be available not just for Android users, but also for iOS devices.

Whenever a message is labeled as spam, users will see the labels showing its status. An easily noticeable red exclamation mark will show up on the user's private avatar area. The message preview will then start with "Suspected spam."

Users are Given Two Options When They Spot the Suspected Spam Label

Whenever users spot the label on new messages, they can then do one of two things, either confirm that it's spam and send it straight to the spam folder, or mark a labeled message as spam, to ensure users won't see the suspected spam label for those numbers or messages.

The feature is reportedly available for all types of users including customers under the Voice Starter, Standard, and Premium paid. These include users in the US that have free personal accounts as well.

The feature is already rolling out and is expected to be officially available for all people in the upcoming weeks. So far, the goal of Google when it comes to spam protection is to help ensure that users are safe when it comes to fighting against unwanted calls or even potentially harmful scams.

It was noted that for Google Voice, any calls that it thinks are spam actually issue a tag "suspected spam caller." In order to run the feature, Google makes use of advanced artificial intelligence.
