Adding Two Cities

In a recent update, Apple is broadening the scope of its Vision Pro developer labs to encompass two more vibrant metropolises. As of today, 9To5Mac reported that app developers seeking to fine-tune their creations using Vision Pro can submit their requests to participate in labs located in New York City and Sydney.

This development was officially communicated through a post on Apple's developer website. With these latest inclusions, the expanded roster of cities offering Vision Pro labs now includes Cupertino, New York City, Sydney, London, Munich, Shanghai, Singapore, and Tokyo.

This strategic expansion aims to provide developers across the globe with greater access to Apple's resources for app optimization and innovation.

Widening Access

For developers who faced obstacles in obtaining developer kits, Apple has unveiled a solution. The accessibility of Apple Vision Pro labs is no longer limited to a select few, following widespread complaints about the limited availability, particularly the sole lab located on the U.S. West Coast.

Apple Insider reported that this deficiency has been addressed by Apple in a recent announcement. The expansion of Apple Vision Pro developer labs to New York City and Sydney is scheduled for November 6.

These labs present an invaluable opportunity for developers to apply and gain entry, affording them the chance to delve into the realm of spatial computing app development.

Some developers have championed these labs as an instrumental resource provided by Apple, lauding their effectiveness in guiding developers toward the right mindset for crafting applications on this innovative platform.

As the anticipated release of Apple Vision Pro approaches, eager developers face a unique set of challenges. Set to debut in early 2024, this won't be available for direct purchase until that time. Developers must grapple with the task of creating apps for the platform using the visionOS simulator on Mac.

This presents a notable obstacle, as visionOS is a 3D platform that relies on eye tracking and gestures for control. MacRumors reported that building apps for such an interface proves complex without access to the hardware itself.

Acquiring developer kits, while feasible, necessitates navigating through a series of stringent NDAs and security protocols. Given these hurdles, the most accessible route to delve into Apple Vision Pro is through the dedicated developer labs.

Apple Vision Pro is slated for an early 2024 release, with a price tag of $3,499, promising a transformative journey into the realm of spatial computing for those who can access it.
