A new report indicates that Tesla is now preparing to launch the refreshed version of Model Y from its Shanghai plant a few months from now.

Building on the success of the Model 3 refresh launched last summer in Asia, the Pacific, and Europe, Tesla seems poised to replicate that achievement with the Model Y. While the refreshed Model 3 has made waves globally, the North American market is yet to witness its arrival.

Rumors have been circulating about Tesla's intentions to refresh the Model Y, closely tied to the innovations introduced with the new Model 3. This strategy aligns with Tesla's approach of cross-pollinating successful features across its vehicle lineup.

When Does Tesla Plan to Launch Refreshed Tesla Model Y

According to Bloomberg's recent insights, Tesla is gearing up for volume production of the refreshed Model Y in "mid-2024." While specific dates remain undisclosed, sources hint at preparations underway in China, with a potential factory shutdown and upgrade during the upcoming New Year holiday.

The report suggests that the first batch of the upgraded Model Ys will roll out from the second phase of Tesla's Shanghai facility. A brief suspension of production during the New Year holiday is expected for a partial upgrade. Further adjustments will follow before mass production kicks in.

Unlike the Model Y update in China last October, which brought subtle changes such as ambient lighting and performance upgrades, the upcoming refresh is rumored to feature "much more obvious exterior and interior changes." This aligns with earlier speculations about the Juniper project, indicating a substantial overhaul.

Potential Impact on Production Volume

While excitement brews over the impending Model Y refresh, industry experts are keenly watching how Tesla manages the transition.

Model Y stands as Tesla's current cash cow, and any disruptions in production volume during the shift to a new version could significantly impact the automaker's business.

Electrek believes that the efficiency of this production transition will likely play a pivotal role in Tesla's Q1 2024 performance.

If Tesla has model Y, BYD has Song L to rival the American automaker's EV in China. The said model is expected to go down as one of the most popular cars in China next year.
