According to the latest report, Google Maps is still hoping to add the iOS feature Live Activities despite being said that it will be released "in the coming months" of 2023.

While initial evidence of Live Activities support surfaced in August, subsequent progress appeared stagnant. However, the latest app version indicates a revival, suggesting the feature might soon become operational. Arron Perris, a MacRumors contributor, discovered the information.

Google Maps had previously committed to implementing Live Activities support "in the coming months," making the current status overdue based on the company's internal roadmap.

At the time, Google remained silent about the imminent rollout of the iOS feature. There needs to be an explanation for why it has been delayed until 2024 despite teasing its potential launch in 2023.

Live Activities Support to Provide Transformative User Experience

Upon its launch, Live Activities support will empower Google Maps users with real-time turn-by-turn directions and Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA). This information will be conveniently accessible through a live-updating notification on the iPhone Lock Screen. Additionally, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 model users will benefit from the Dynamic Island feature, further enhancing the navigation experience.

Leveraging Apple's Live Activities API

With the release of iOS 16.1, Apple extended its Live Activities API to third-party iPhone apps. This move opened the floodgates for developers to integrate Live Activities seamlessly.

Google Maps' forthcoming support aligns with this trend, aiming to provide users with dynamic and interactive navigation features.

Speaking of Live Activity, the food delivery platform DoorDash received iOS support back in September 2023.

Tech Times reported at that time that the company was becoming more competitive. It hoped to keep up with Uber Eats, which previously got Live Activity support several months after this announcement.

As usual, not all new features are appealing to the users. Some people claimed that Uber Eats' Live Activities are not good, but some agreed that it's something that the app badly needs.

More News About Google Maps

In late December 2023, Tech Times wrote that Google Maps' driving mode might shut down in 2024. The rumor pinpointed that the change will take place next month.

This is the second time that Google will phase out a driving-related feature after it discontinued the Assistant Driving Mode for Android.

In another story by TechCrunch on Wednesday, Jan. 10, EV drivers can now see real-time data about their cars' battery range.

Introduced at CES 2024, the new feature is teased to drop in Google Maps. If you have an electric car with Android Auto, you can use this feature soon.

This in-car navigation functionality is important since it will help the drivers know if it's time to recharge their vehicles. Depending on the vehicle model, it will also indicate how long the EV charging will take.
