Tech fans anxiously await the Friday arrival of Apple Vision Pro, as Apple has announced over 600 new applications and games for the highly-anticipated spatial computing gadget.
The diverse range of Vison Pro apps includes streaming giants such as Disney+, ESPN, MLB, and others, highlighting the device's versatility, per TechCrunch. Specific apps, like the PGA Tour Vision app, provide a golf game with real-time shot tracking on replicated golf courses, while the NBA app enables simultaneous streaming of up to five live or on-demand broadcasts.
Moreover, Productivity apps like MindNote, OmniFocus, and Microsoft 365 underscore Vision Pro's potential for both entertainment and professional use. Cable companies, including Charter Spectrum, Comcast Xfinity, and others, have also embraced the platform, providing a diverse array of content. The Apple Vision Pro will also include the games Sonic Dream Team and TMNT Splintered Fate, among others.
Apple Addressing App Store Concerns
Apple's emphasis on app variety underscores its commitment to positioning the Vision Pro as a comprehensive AR/VR experience, challenging initial concerns and fostering excitement ahead of its launch.
The latest development follows Apple's planned EU Digital Markets Act (DMA) compliance strategy to make app stores and payments equitable. However, critics, including Spotify, Epic Games, and Microsoft, have criticized the plan as a "farce" filled with "junk fees," deviating from the intended spirit of the new law.
As reported by TechCrunch, concerns had surfaced about Apple's stance potentially discouraging developer interest in creating apps for its latest AR/VR headset, with prominent companies like Netflix and YouTube expressing reluctance to support the Vision Pro launch. Apple aims to alleviate these concerns, asserting that the Vision Pro boasts a substantial app catalog despite its premium pricing and perceived developer discontent.
Vison Pro Already Sold 200,000 Units But Requires Software Update
Meanwhile, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that sales of Apple Vision Pro headsets quickly increased after the start of pre-orders, increasing by between 160,000 and 180,000 units, per GSMArena. An additional source has now corroborated this approximate figure. An insider, in conversation with MacRumors, asserts that a total of 200,000 Vision Pro units have been sold within the ten days since pre-orders commenced.
In another related update, Apple's upcoming Vision Pro headset will receive a day-one software update with VisionOS 1.0.2. Though the update's contents remain undisclosed, it addresses a WebKit vulnerability that Apple has identified as potentially exploitable, per MacRumors.
While review units of the Vision Pro are currently in the possession of media personnel, this update applies to those updating from VisionOS 1.0. Notably, Vision Pro owners, upon receiving their headsets on launch day, will need to install this software. The Vision Pro initially ships with the first version of the VisionOS software, and anticipation builds for VisionOS 2, which is expected to debut with new features at the WWDC event in June.
