If you're a Messenger user, you've probably noticed that, unlike WhatsApp, it doesn't display the time for every message you send or receive. Instead, it only shows the date and time of the first message that initiated the chat. But fear not; there's a way to find out the time for each message on Messenger.

It's easier than you imagine and there's no fancy processes just to do this on your Messenger app.

Understanding Messenger Timestamps

This article explains how to tell if someone has sent a message to your Messenger account.

Messenger, a widely used messaging platform, prioritizes simplicity in its interface. Unlike WhatsApp, where timestamps for each message are prominently displayed, Messenger opts for a cleaner look by only showing the time and date when a chat started, not for every message exchanged within that chat.

Finding Timestamps on Messenger

Although Messenger doesn't display timestamps for every message by default, you can still uncover this information with a simple workaround.

On Messenger Mobile:

  1. Launch the Messenger app.
  2. Open the chat where you want to find the timestamp.
  3. Tap on the specific message, and the timestamp will appear on top of it. This works on both Android and iOS devices.

On Messenger Desktop:

  1. Visit the Messenger website or access Messenger through Facebook.
  2. Open the chat you're interested in.
  3. Hover your cursor over the message, and the timestamp will appear on the left side of each message.

Understanding Message Status

In addition to timestamps, Messenger uses various symbols to indicate the status of your messages:

  • An empty circle: The message hasn't been sent.
  • An empty circle with a checkmark: The message has been sent but not yet received by the recipient.
  • A filled blue circle: The recipient has received the message.
  • A mini profile picture inside the circle: The recipient has read your message.

While Messenger may not display timestamps for each message as explicitly as WhatsApp does, you now know how to find them easily. By following the steps outlined above, you can access timestamp information for any message on Messenger, whether you're using the mobile app or the desktop version.

Although it would be convenient for Messenger to incorporate timestamps for every message, for now, this workaround suffices.

Keep an eye out for any updates from Messenger that may simplify this process in the future. Until then, you have the tools to uncover message timestamps whenever you need them.
