Twitch is planning massive changes for 2024, with the mobile app being one of the experiences that the company will be revamping, offering a new look and feel to the smartphone platform. This change would finally give a new look since the last redesign of the mobile app in 2019, with around five years since the company last updated the interface of the platform.

Apart from the mobile app, Twitch also revealed the many changes coming to its platform, reinforcing the improvements planned for the year.

Twitch CEO Dan Clancy posted on the company's blog to reiterate its commitment to improving more of the platform this 2024, with one of the highlights being the upcoming redesign of its mobile app.

We're redesigning the mobile app (the first major update since 2019) to bring you a more modern, immersive viewing experience by making the discovery feed available to all Twitch users as the new landing experience in the app.

This redesign would focus on the discovery feed, and this feature was tested by the company for limited users to see, offering a scrollable feed with live streams and clips uploaded on the platform. Additionally, the discovery feed would now be the landing page on the Twitch mobile app.

New Changes Since Last 2019 Redesign

Through this, users will have a chance to learn and know more about the massive library of the company and discover more of their feed even with little time to spare, said Twitch.

Since 2019, Twitch has retained its design for the platform, but coming later this year, it would be the discovery feed headlining the experience. Additionally, users could also take advantage of the new Stories feature on the platform, alongside short video stories for the platform, pinch-to-zoom, and making portrait clips for this experience.

Subscriptions, gifts, and Bits will also be improved, alongside Hype Train, and adding mod tools for the mobile platforms with the Mobile Mod View coming to the iOS later.

Twitch and the Social Platform

The social networking and streaming platform did not have a pleasant start to the year as it began 2024 with a round of layoffs for 35 percent of its staff. This totals to 500 employees, including senior executives, removed from their posts earlier this year, following March 2023's 400-employee layoff as part of its cost-cutting measures after the company suffered significant losses.

Before 2024 ended, Twitch also had a massive fiasco with its content policy, and at first, many rejoiced at the platform for allowing artistic nudity for streamers to show online. However, that did not last long, as the company went back on its new policy and disallowed posting these kinds of content on the platform, reevaluating the changes it had for the streams.

Amazon's Twitch is known for its special experiences for live streaming and content creation but is also notorious for its massive restrictions, contracts, and more for its content creators.

Twitch is looking at a massive 2024, with new plans to improve more of the platform, particularly for the mobile app experience that is getting a new look after five years.
