Google is working on a new feature for Chats called "Announcements," and it is a widely used feature on other platforms like Meta, WhatsApp, Telegram, and more.

It would have a similar dynamic to the broadcast channel feature, best known for being an avenue for admins, moderators, content creators, and celebrities to share information so that people can be the first to know.

It is a more direct approach that would allow fans and subscribers to get the latest information about new drops or updates from their favorite personalities as quickly as possible.

Renowned insider and analyst, AssembleDebug, recently announced via an X post that Google Chats is working on a new feature on the messaging platform called "Announcements."

It would offer users a way to either create or subscribe to broadcast messages on the platform, one that would help in preventing clutter in group conversations.

When users need to announce group chats, their announcement may either be overshadowed by other messages or not be seen by all members of the conversation.

However, with Announcements, Google Chats would ensure that their messages are easy to get back to or find, as it would prevent clutter or unnecessary conversation from being sent in the broadcasts.

Similar to Meta, WhatsApp Broadcast Channels

It is similar to several features on Meta's platform, including WhatsApp's Channels, Instagram's Broadcast Channels, and Telegram's Channels, which will only allow certain people to make announcements. This may include the creators, admins, and designated accounts that are permitted to share information.

This means users would have to subscribe, join, or follow certain Announcements on Google Chats to receive updates and new information.

Google Chat Features

Google Chat is a known communication service from Mountain View. It was initially meant for teams and businesses to use, but it was recently made available for all to enjoy. It features almost the same dynamics as Meta's Facebook Messenger, centering on a more Google-centric approach, with several features like spaces and direct messages available to enjoy.

The company rolled out the 'Smart Compose' feature that helps users write messages for their contacts or groups for Google Chats. While not exactly an AI feature, it is a predictive text function that users may turn off.

It has been a feature of Gmail for a long time now, one that can be helpful or destructive to the writing process and could complete a message with only a press of a button.

Chats is stepping up to be one of Google's top messaging apps alongside Google Messages and Gmail, with new features made available to the platform. Google Chat's announcements may help organize more important news or updates for certain people or groups, similar to Meta's broadcast channels, where users can simply read and acknowledge messages.
