Gabb, a leading provider of kid-safe technology, has unveiled the beta version of Gabb Messenger Safe Video Calling, a feature designed to detect potential nudity during video calls and notify parents accordingly.

The initiative builds upon the success of Gabb Messenger, which replaced traditional texting on Gabb phones in early 2023.

Alongside the Gabb Messenger app, caregivers can utilize Gabb Messenger Parents, an accompanying app that empowers parents to monitor and manage their child's communication activities.

Safe Video Calling Feature

The Safe Video Calling feature automatically alerts parents when potential nudity is detected during video calls, prompting them to take appropriate action.

Furthermore, the feature ensures that video calls are immediately disconnected and disabled upon detecting such content.

Parents can exercise control over video calling settings through Gabb Messenger Parents, which is compatible with both Apple and Android devices.

This control mechanism allows parents to enable or disable video calling based on their preferences and concerns regarding their child's safety.

Nate Randle, CEO of Gabb, emphasized the importance of prioritizing child safety in the digital age, especially as video calling becomes increasingly prevalent among young users.

"Video calling is becoming more of a primary way to communicate than before. We're very excited to provide this functionality in a way that focuses on kid safety, because helping protect kids from the dangers of a connected world is why we exist," Randle said in a press release statement.

The app aims to alleviate parents' need for constant monitoring, offering a seamless experience that prioritizes safety without compromising usability.

Gabb's Partnership with Agora

The Safe Video Calling feature is made possible through a partnership with Agora, a leading provider of real-time engagement technology.

Agora's video calling API ensures high-quality, reliable video calls, even in areas with limited connectivity. This aligns with Gabb's mission to provide a secure environment for children and their families.

"We are thrilled to partner with Gabb to power their new Safe Video Calling feature. Our technology is built with safety and privacy at its core, ensuring the highest standards of protection for children and their families," said Tony Zhao, CEO at Agora.

"Through this collaboration, we're helping Gabb empower young users to safely connect with their loved ones, while providing parents with peace of mind knowing that their children are engaging on a secure and reliable platform."

Smart Filtration Tech

Gabb Messenger incorporates smart filtration technology to automatically block nude images, explicit language, and links from unknown contacts.

This approach aims to prevent risky content from reaching children, minimizing the need for reactive measures after the fact.

Gabb Messenger Parents notifies caregivers and enables them to access flagged messages sent from or received on their child's device. Parents can determine whether their children have the ability to delete messages.

Flagged messages offer parents the chance to intervene in instances of online mistakes, grooming, self-harm, and bullying before they worsen, according to Gabb.

Additionally, Gabb Messenger Parents allows caregivers to manage approved contacts, ensuring that children can only communicate via messaging and video calls with contacts approved by the parent.
