Following in the footsteps of Apple with its iPhone 14, Google's upcoming Pixel 9 series is set to introduce groundbreaking features, including emergency satellite connectivity and advanced modem integration, a Google insider tells Android Authority.

These enhancements aim to tackle one of the persistent connectivity issues that have plagued previous iterations of the Pixel lineup.

Google Pixel 9 Gets Emergency Satellite Connectivity

This feature, a first for the Pixel lineup, enables users to maintain communication even in remote or disaster-stricken areas where traditional cellular networks may be unavailable.

Through support for Android's native satellite implementation, Pixel 9 users will have access to essential services, including texting, via a satellite link.

Additionally, Android Authority reports that a dedicated "Satellite Gateway" app will facilitate seamless communication with emergency services through a new feature called "Emergency SOS."

Advanced Moden Integration

The report also suggests that the Pixel 9 series will introduce a new level of modem integration, addressing connectivity issues that have plagued previous generations.

The inclusion of the Samsung Modem 5400 in the Tensor G4 chipset promises improved stability and performance. This upcoming feature marks a major step forward in rectifying modem-related challenges that have been reported by Pixel users in recent years.

Modems have emerged as a critical component in the Pixel lineup, with connectivity issues becoming a primary concern for users. The transition to semi-custom Tensor chips in 2021 introduced new challenges, particularly concerning modem stability.

However, subsequent iterations, including the Tensor G2 in the Pixel 8 series, have shown marked improvements. Despite these advancements, connectivity issues persist, with nearly 60% of respondents in a recent survey reporting problems since the March 2024 update.

The introduction of the Samsung Modem 5400 in the Pixel 9 series represents a significant leap forward, offering enhanced performance and support for 5G non-terrestrial networks (NTN), also known as satellite-based communication. This integration underscores Google's commitment to delivering a seamless and reliable user experience across its flagship devices.
