The Gamescom 2024 would not see Nintendo making its annual appearance, as it was reported that the company would skip this year's festivities of the renowned event.

It also led to various news outlets and speculators believing that Nintendo is preparing for a far more important revelation in the future, and all roads point to the Nintendo Switch 2 console.

Fans and industry insiders are hot on the heels of the Switch 2, and there are varying reports behind the console, particularly as many already point to a 2025 release.

Games Wirtschaft (translated by Nintendo Life) revealed a statement released by Nintendo about their Gamescom 2024 appearance this year, with the company confirming that it will not join the Cologne-based event.

Gamescom is a central event for Nintendo in the event calendar. However, this year, after careful consideration, we have decided against participating in Cologne. Players can try out the games for Nintendo Switch instead as part of other Germany-wide events.

There are massive expectations that Nintendo's Gamescom appearance will reveal further information about expected titles for the current Switch consoles this year.

These expectations are centered on first-party games that Nintendo will bring for the Switch, including Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, and Endless Ocean Luminous.

Nintendo Switch 2 Believed to be the Reason

Reports believe that Nintendo may be skipping the games event to prepare for its future deliverables, particularly with later announcements on specific games meant for the latter part of 2024.

However, there are also claims that point to the Switch 2, particularly as Nintendo is already preparing for the reveal that would confirm the console's future release.

What to Expect from the Switch 2

Last year, reports about the Nintendo Switch 2 were massive, but they all pointed out a 2024 reveal and drop of the new portable console.

However, earlier this year, it seemed that the 2024 release date of the Nintendo Switch 2 was not possible, with the Japanese media company remaining silent behind this development, which is said to be pushed to 2025

Massive leaks behind the many titles Nintendo is expecting from renowned developers have been popping up for several months already, with SEGA being one of the biggest companies to develop games for the Switch 2.

Various claims also said that the Switch would feature various options, such as a digital and physical version of the console alongside an OLED screen, a possibility of a dual screen like the DS, and a more powerful chip

The first Nintendo Direct of 2024, held last February, did not mention the Switch 2, and it is expected that further Direct events will also not mention the new console.

That being said, Nintendo's Gamescom 2024 skip suggests that it is refocusing its priorities on the Switch 2, but one thing is clear: the Japanese company will not update us on any of its developments for now.
